Patience! Oh my gosh. Does it exist anymore? On another CD mix that the little guy has there is a 3 second delay between songs (that I, stupidly, put there) and after each song ends he says, "Song?Song? Song?..." until the next one plays. It tests both of our patience. But, then I recognize that I even feel annoyed sometimes when my browser takes more than 3 or 4 seconds to load. So, I am really no better. Trying. But no better!

Gratitude is a great place to start. It is such an all-encompassing trait. It is really what Tim and I think most about -- how do you balance giving your kids more than you had growing up while also teaching them to appreciate good fortune and not take things for granted? We are also focused on patience. It is especially hard in the current culture where instant gratification is a way of life. Move over dewey decimal system, we can get answers to research questions from a quick google search -- or as you mention track down anyone anytime with cell phones and facebook status updates. Gratitude and patience are the two traits we are most focused on passing down to Rice.
